The Master’s Degree Programme in Fashion System Design (Design Sistema Moda) is active in blended learning mode.
The Master’s Degree Programme responds to a clear need within the fashion sector, both locally and nationally, which requires highly qualified professionals with specific design, organisational, and managerial skills in the production sectors of clothing, leather goods, and fashion accessories, as well as competencies in distribution networks, marketing, communication, and market promotion. The definition of the educational objectives listed below was developed through extensive and in-depth consultation with stakeholders.
The Master’s graduate in Fashion System Design is characterised by advanced technical, technological, and methodological preparation in production processes, materials, and semi-finished products for clothing, leather goods, and fashion accessories, as well as related organisational, managerial, and control activities. The graduate also possesses specific skills to analyse socio-cultural and market changes and to translate material and immaterial values into fashion design and products, such as strategies related to company branding and communication.
The programme aims to train a “designer” within the Fashion System context, a high-level professional figure capable of engaging with innovation and research dynamics in the fashion system sector; a graduate able to manage all phases of the design and implementation process, from strategy selection and development to concept design and final production of fashion design projects, processes, and products.
In particular, in the field of design organisation and production engineering, the programme aims to train professionals with specific skills in design development (design manager) and production process management within the fashion context, also taking into account market trends. Through the Design and Engineering areas, students acquire specific technical and technological knowledge for supply chain management and retail (fashion retail management), as well as product and process quality control, including operational skills in major digital tools.
Through the training path, particularly in marketing and communication areas, the programme also aims to prepare professionals in the “product system” across different phases, from distribution network management and fashion marketing to promotion and market development. The objective is to provide specific knowledge and skills for proper commercial organisation in the fashion sector, including participation in trade events, management of showrooms and retail outlets. Graduates may also acquire skills in designing and applying e-trading models, as well as in communication management and promotion.
The programme is structured as a single curriculum and includes design studios that characterise the study path.
For elective courses, students may choose from all courses offered by the University of Florence.
The programme includes 11 exams divided into 4 semesters.
The standard study load is 60 ECTS per year.
Students who have achieved 120 ECTS and fulfilled all programme requirements may graduate earlier than the standard two-year duration.
